Demmers Teehaus

After some time in life people tend to realize what they really love and value - no matter at what place they are. It might be something cosy or pure adventure. For me - it is food. Wherever I go, one of the first things i check is the food available there: which dishes can i buy, which are recommended restaurants or - even better - secret hot spots? I might stand in awe in front of some old obelisk or whatever, take thousands of pictures of it ... but in the end, what i will talk about most and what makes me really really wanna go back to places - is food. Cozy little restaurants somewhere in nowhere - anything. Places that make you somehow feel at home, at ease, in a different world and do come with yummy food and drinks.

This is one of them.
You enter and you feel like you're sitting in a nice living room back home - excluding the fact that this living room is full of strangers.
The first thing I did entering this shop was to turn my mobile on silence and to not look at it for some hours. (niiiiice) Then I suddenly had the urge to take out a notepad and write - something important or irrelevant,  thoughts that would come to my mind in such a nice place.

I have to say, sad as it is, but this is one of the few tea houses in Vienna. Go around, look as much as you want - you will hardly find any. What a pity! I love tea and somehow - tea salons are just a little inch more sophisticated, relaxing and homely than a coffee shop. I don't know why but that's the way it is.

This one comes with nice, english country side looking armchairs, small tables, a cake-bar and a nice menu of tea specialities. The menu might not seem that long but in reality you could just order any tea the shop sells. Yes - it is a tea shop as well, having been around for quite some time (since 1981 to be precise) and selling everything a true tea fanatic might need to survive.
In the original shop at Mölker Bastei 5 you will find this nice tea salon on the first floor - just above all the nice tea souvenirs - and with open view on it (so you can enjoy a cup of tea while deciding on what to buy for your next tea-party later).

Compared to other shops in the inner city the prices are quite moderate. You can get a nice can of quality tea starting at € 3,80 and top it with a nice (fluffy, creamy, awesome, the best i ever had) chocolate cake for € 3,20. Honestly, it's worth every cent!

To sum it up in points (1 is the best, 5 is really bad - like the Austrian grading system^^):
Service: 2 (friendly and attentive)
Quality of food: 1 (the cake is beyond words)
Quality of drinks: 1 (very nice tea, good taste and quality)
Price: 2 (well, it's not the cheapest place to have a cup of tea but given the quality and the shop atmosphere the price is more than acceptable)
Atmosphere: 1 (it's this nice feeling when all the sorrows come to a halt and just stay outside the door when you enter, you can feel nice and sophisticated, sipping your tea and doing nothing else than staring holes into the wall, watching the people around you, writing on your next book or chatting away with a good friend)

Conclusion: A MUST-VISIT! :)
